    Hi,

I need some suggestion. I will have one spare day in Interlaken and i need to utilize it well with some scenic train ride. I will have Swiss travel pass.

I see that i can take Golden pass line from Interlaken to Montreux via Zweisimmen. Is it wirth the trip and fully covered with Swiss travel pass.

What are my other options? Any suggestions for Bernina express or Glacier express? Not sure if i can get access to these from Interlaken?

or ..are there options to go to Zermatt?

    Looking for some suggestions please!

    thank you!

    Bret

    Hello Bret,

The Golden Pass is a popular option. The map you can download at http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity will show you which routes are covered by the STP.

A day trip to Zermatt is another – the Matterhorn is definitely worth a look.. Go one way via Kandersteg to maximise the scenery.

Forget the BEX and GEX from Interlaken base.

I am also thinking of taking the train from Interlaken to Zermatt and return. However please can someone clarify what BEX and GEX mean? Thank you.

Bernina Express and Glacier Express mentioned in Bret’s original post.

If you do a day trip Interlaken to Zermatt then I’d suggest you go one way via Kandersteg for a bit of variety and nice scenery between Spiez and Brig. You will then travel on the Regio-Express Lötschberger train over the traditional, more than 100 year old mountain route, giving you a wonderful view along the impressive peaks and down into the Rhone Valley. The more direct route goes Spiez to Visp of vice versa and traverses a longer tunnel.

    Hello

Jumping in on this post as it is quite relevant to us so please excuse me. We are travelling from Brienz to Grachen by car for the second week of our holiday. Is the scenic route you mention via Kandersteg doable by car. Does it take long (travelling June 15th) so weather should be good and not cause any problems.Or would you suggest a different route in a car

    Thanks

You can put your car on a train at Kandersteg and drive off at Goppenstein. See http://www.bls.ch/en/fahren/u nterwegs-mit/autoverlad.

Is this a better option than driving all the way? Also if we did this would be able to reduce the fare with our Swiss half fare card?

You’ve got me there. I don’t really do driving. Someone more learned will be along shortly to clarify.

Thank you rockoyster for the recommendation. I have already purchased a 3 day Jungfrau Travel Pass. My original plan was to buy the rail tickets on the day of travel to Zermatt and return. I did not think it was worth getting an advance rail pass as I do not know which day I will be traveling. However is there a travel pass worth getting for the single trip to Zermatt and back to Interlaken? I will be staying in Interlaken between the 21st June – 24th June.

    Hi Denandshazza,

Unfortunately there are NO discounts with the Swiss Half Fare Card on CARtrains.

    Best,
    Steph

    Hello Carlton,

You can look at the Saver Day Pass as an option.
