    Hello Svetochka,

Yes, the selection is quite wide, the working-out quite a task, but as mentioned before, for an itinerary like yours the Swiss Travel Pass normally offers the best value-for-price balance!

Regarding activities in the Jungfrau Region maybe this link will also provide some inspiration:

<<“Thank you Steph, the variety of Swiss passes just simply enormous.”>>

    Yes it is.

The reasons for the choice not being simple include:

1.- Half-fare card gives 50% off on essentially everything

2.-Swiss Travel Pass gives 100 % off on most regular trains, busses, boats, but not on many mountain railways, cableways, etc., where it may give on 25% off. Since the Jungfraujoch trip is quite expensive, that one skews the cost.

3.-Regional passes have special coverage for things that would otherways have a cash cost.

I think Steph’s comment is a good guess, but, as I said, I don’t know the subtleties.

    Her is an interesting thread:

one quick question: what is the best area to stay in Zurich, if I only have 2 nights there, but want to see as much of the city as possible.

<<“best area to stay in Zurich,”>>

It doesn’t matter a whole lot, because the tram and bus system is very effective, supplemented buy the S-bahn ( suburban train) system.

Exploring the city works well from near the main station, because that puts you close to a lot of things to see on foot, as well as at a hub of the tram system. There are many hotels near there.

    http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich/hotels

I have been staying for many years at the Hotel Adler, which matches my needs, and is on the list above.

    http://www.hotel-adler.ch/index.php/en/

It is in the heart of one part of the old town, called the Niederdorf. In this map it is shown clearly on Rosengasse:

    map.search.ch/?pos=683465,247510&z=40 96

    Zoom out

Tram stop Rudolf Brun Brücke is about a 75-100 meter walk. Tram ride on the #4 to the main station (Hbf) from that stop takes 6-8 minutes, every 8 minutes during the day. In between, #15 + a change at Central get you there in 8-10.

Walk to the Hbf is about 10-12 minutes.

But, you don’t have to stay near the Hbf, because it is easy to catch a tram or bus ( or train) from the suburbs or exurbs or any part of the city to the main station. Fast, frequent service. Free with the STP, otherwise, buy a day card for the central zone ( zone 101). it covers all modes within that zone. You can add zones to the card if you want to go to some place nearby in the suburbs.

Thanks Slowpoke, hotel Adler is unfortunately not available on our days in Zurich, but I got an idea of part of town we may want to stay. What would you recommend not to miss in Zurich for the first time visitors? Is it easy to rent a bike for a day or two?

Hi Svetochka! Our recommendations for Zurich are listed at http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich and http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich/activities. I’d at least include a walk trough the old town: http://www.myswissalps.com/hi king/zurich. Free bike usage is available: http://www.zuerich.com/en/vis it/sport/zurich-on-wheels.

    Hi Svetochka,

When you’re in Zurich I would recommend visiting the Lindt Chocolate Factory. It’s located by the lake in Zurich-Kilchberg, and offers an optional 40-minute guided tour to visitors, which includes a chocolate-tasting experience as well as a 10% voucher that you can you use to purchase chocolates from the shop. You can reach it by train or take the boat across the lake. There’s a guided tour that you can take too.

If you wish to plan more similar excursion like this including cheese making and wine tasting, please refer to this link:
