Trip to Lucerne, Lauterbrunnen, Matterhorn in June

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Switzerland in early June with their boyfriend and his parents. They have a rough itinerary which includes Zurich, Lucerne, Lauterbrunnen, Greyeres, and Matterhorn, but they're unsure about the number of days to spend in each location and how to optimize their travel. They seek advice on the feasibility of their plan and potential adjustments.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider spending a few days in Lucerne, as there’s plenty to explore, more than Lauterbrunnen.
  • Be cautious about staying only one night at the Matterhorn since weather can be unpredictable; more time increases your chances of enjoying the views.
  • You can visit Wengen, Grindelwald, and Mürren in one day since they are close to each other, but it will be a packed day.
  • If traveling frequently between cities, look into getting a Swiss Travel Pass for easier access to public transportation.

    Hello,

I will be travelling to Switzerland beginning of juin with my boyfriend and his parents. We’ve been looking online at possible destinations and came up with the following itinerary.

This is just a rough idea of places we’d like to go but I don’t know if it makes sense or if other options would be better.

    1. Land in Zurich

    2. Travel to Lucerne (how many days should we stay here, or should we even stay the night or simply see it as we go to lauterbrunnen?)

    3. Travel to lauterbrunnen. Here we would stay several nights and do day trips to Wengen, Grindelweld, Murren, Jungfraujoch, Bern. Is this a good idea? How many days should we stay in lauterbrunnen to be able to see all those places?

Travel to Greyeres (stay about 1 night)

Travel to Matterhorn (stay about 1 night)

And then we havent figured out the best way to head back to an airport. Or we might head down to Italy for a bit if we have time.

Please feel free to give your opinions and ideas on the itinerary above as I’ve never been to Switzerland and have only found the places mentioned by looking online.

    Thank you!

The Luzern region is not usually done in ‘in one day’ on the way to Lauterbrunnen.

Arguably there is more to do from Luzern than Lauterbrunnen.

Technically speaking you can actually do Wengen, Grindelwald and Mürren in one day (not including mountain tops that is) – they are all close together (and you are always within sight of the Jungfrau – remember Switzerland is a small country and the Jungfrau area is a small area in a small country!

    Welcome to MySwissAlps Jaybreton!

You have selected some wonderful regions for your visit. As 1960man says, there is a lot to do and see. You could enjoy yourselves for weeks just in the Lucerne region. So staying there for a few days would certainly be a good idea if time allows. Seeing the Matterhorn is weather dependent so staying there for one night only is risky. You could of course be lucky and have sunny days before and after that one night. The below links provide more details to fine tune your plans:
