Taxi/Uber in Zurich, Interlaken, St. Moritz, etc.

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Ajittipnis is planning an 18-day trip to Switzerland and is inquiring about the availability of Uber and other taxi services in cities like Zurich, Interlaken, and Lucerne. They prefer to use taxis from the train stations to their hotels, but seek advice on transportation options for seniors with luggage.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider using public transport instead of taxis, as it's often cheaper and convenient.
  • Hotels may be within walking distance from train stations, making taxis unnecessary.
  • Make use of the Swiss Travel Pass for free transport in many areas.
  • Research hotel locations and nearby public transport stops before your trip.
  • Allow extra time for connections on transit days, especially for seniors.

    Hi Ajittipnis,

There are taxi services in all towns. I don’t know about Uber though. Are you sure you need/want a taxi in all cases? Many hotels are at walking distance from the train station. If not, there is excellent public transport which is often free for hotel guests and Swiss Travel Pass holders. If you do have to pay it will be much cheaper than a taxi.

Thanks Arno, just in case if we require, as we are all senior citizens and mostly in case of transiting from one city to another with our luggage., I have prepared the full Itinerary with using Public Transport service with our Swiss Travel Pass.. It seems you have amazing Public Travel System in your country and am sure we will be enjoying that during our 18 day stay in switzerland.

Sounds all good then! Should you have trouble finding a taxi then either the hotel or the train station staff can help you with that.

You should be fine as seniors with your luggage but sometimes it’s better to allow a little extra time on “transit days”.

Swiss connections are always guaranteed but it can be a little tight if you have to change platforms and there are many other seniors with luggage making the transit.

Sometimes, I prefer to spend 65 minutes making a leisurely connection rather than a potential rush.

    Enjoy your travels!

    Swiss taxis are expensive

If you can, you should be able to use public transport instead – especially trams (in Zürich) which are smooth, and nearly all now have low floors for easy access (that’s the trend in all public transport in major cities worldwide)

There are things you can do in advance, eg:

research the exact location of each of your hotels (eg on google earth, google maps, Swissgeo, MAP Search ch. Find the nearest public transport stop, then use the directions features to see how far it is

Also contact the hotel in advance and ask them how far they are from the main station.
