Travel to Schilthorn Piz Gloria restaurant

Short summary – read this first

Shridhar is planning a trip to a restaurant accessible via cable car from either Stechelberg or Mürren, while traveling from Grindelwald. They need advice on convenience and costs related to parking and cable car tickets for both routes. It's great to consider options to make the most of the beautiful scenery.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider parking at Lauterbrunnen station for easy access to cable cars, with a return ticket costing CHF 91.80 per person.
  • For a scenic experience, opt for a round trip from Lauterbrunnen to Schilthorn and back via Mürren, costing CHF 100.60 per person.
  • Check weather forecasts and webcams for specific destinations like Titlis and Jungfraujoch for up-to-date information.
➤ Get your mountain tickets from the official SBB tourist webshop: discounts for pass holders, easy online cancellation.

I understand that there are a couple of options to travel to the restaurant; one of which is cable car from Stechelberg and the other is from Murren.

I would be travelling from Grindelwald by road; could anyone please advice me on convenience and costs (for parking and cable car tickets) involved in taking either route?

    thanks,

    Shridhar

    Hello Shridhar,

Option 1: You could go to Lauterbrunnen and park your car in the car park near Lauterbrunnen station. Across the street you will find the station “Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen Mürren” (BLM): a cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp. From there you take the narrow gauge railway track to Mürren.
Walk through the village to the station of the “Luftseilbahn Stechelberg Mürren Schilthorn” (LSMS) and take the cable car to Schilthorn (and Piz Gloria Restaurant). In the normal time table the cable cars go every half hour.
For this trip a return ticket costs CHF 91,80 per person.

Option 2: You drive through Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg, park your car near the station of the LSMS cable car and take the cable cars to Gimmelwald, Mürren and Schilthorn.
For this trip a return ticket will be CHF 91,80 per person.

Option 3: If you like you can go up from Lauterbrunnen via Grütschalp and Mürren to Schilthorn and down from Schilthorn via Mürren to Stechelberg. There you can take the Postauto back to Lauterbrunnen.
This “Round trip” will be CHF 100,60 per person.

The car parks in Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg are excellent and not too expensive although I don’t know the actual prices.

I would certainly suggest option 3: then you will see the most of all the beautiful scenery.

I hope this answers your question and I wish you a very nice stay!

    Hello Wandermann,

Thanks for your advice. This is certainly helpful.

Could you also inform me about any website that provides weather updates on specific places like Titlis, Jungfraujoch, Interlaken, etc. I tried searching the websites but could not relate to the places that have been mentioned there to the places I wish to visit.

    Thanks again,

    Shridhar

    Hello again Shridhar,

The following links may be useful. Apart from looking at weather forecasts you can also search for webcams situated in the places you want to visit.

    General weather forecast sites are:

    http://meteo.sf.tv/sfmeteo/prognosen_ch.php
    http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/Europe.htm
    http://www.meteoschweiz.admin.ch/web/en/weather.html

Local information in the area you mention can be:

    Mount Titlis:
    http://www.titlis.ch/index.php?id=104

    Jungfraujoch, Männlichen, Schilthorn:
    http://www.swisspanorama.com/

Interlaken, Männlichen, Niederhorn, Beatenberg, Thunersee (Neuhaus), Schilthorn:
    http://www.interlaken.ch/index.php?id=117&L=3

If you want to find a webcam in a specific region and specific station you can use: http://meteo.sf.tv/sfmeteo/wetter_aktuell_meteorama.php

Information about weather conditions are available in tourist offices as well.

    I hope this helps,
