Itinerary help – trip to Switzerland in February

Short summary – read this first

Farah is planning a 5-day trip with four friends to Switzerland in early February, featuring stays in Basel and Lauterbrunnen. They seek advice on their itinerary, which includes visits to Zurich, Lucerne, Jungfraujoch, and Geneva.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider adjusting your Day 2 schedule as it might be too busy to fit everything in comfortably.
  • Look into using the Swiss Travel Pass for convenient travel around the country.
  • If time allows on Day 5, consider opting for scenic trains like the Golden Pass route for beautiful views.

I am planning a 5 days trip together with 4 other friends early Feb 2019. Currently finalizing my itinerary & doing some research and hopefully to complete my full itinerary soon. We will be staying in Basel on Day 1 and later will be staying in Lauterbrunnen for rest of the trip.

As this will be our first time travelling to Swiss, really appreciate some advice on our plan of itinerary, places, travelling etc.

Here is the snapshot of our itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Basel SBB (we will take afternoon train from Paris)

Day 2: One day trip to Zurich (stop by) – Lucerne (Trip to Pilatus)

Day 3 : Stay in Lauterbrunnen – One day trip to Jungfraujoch

Day 4 : Stay in Lauterbrunnen – One day trip to Murren/Schiltorn

Day 5 : One day trip to Bern – Montreux (stop by) – Geneva (will take train to Paris at late evening)

    Thank you in advance

    Farah

Hi Farah and welcome to MySwissAlps!

So on day 2 you are leaving Basel to Zurich, then Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus and then that night in Lauterbrunnen? That is too busy a day I think. You can use the Swiss railways timetable here to plan out trips and see what will and won’t work for you: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

Day 5: This is Lauterbrunnen – Bern – Montreux – Geneva? With a very early start this is doable, of course it depends on how much time you want in Bern and Geneva and if you take more direct trains or scenictrains like the Golden Pass route (Interlaken to Zweisimmen to Montreux) http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass

Be sure to look through our town pages here as well to find ideas of what to do: http://www.myswissalps.com/wh eretogo/towns

Have you looked into a rail pass like the Swiss Travel Pass for traveling around the country? http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass

    Hi Farah

    <<“travelling to Swiss,”>>

The name of the country in English is Switzerland.

In English, Swiss is an adjective.

You can make the visits you suggest, refined as Lucas suggests, but expect very cold weather and snow.. Great for skiing in the Alps.

    Tqvm for the replies.

Lucas: i hv same concern as it would be pretty tight schedule. Perhaps, on Day 2 I’ll take train straight from Basel to Mt Pilatus. On day 5, i will consider taking scenictrains. The idea of having Swiss Travel Pass is the best option for me. Tq

Slowpoke: Thanks for pointing out 🙂
