    Hi Cora,

Reservations are optional on the Luzern-Interlaken Express.

If you do want to make a reservation, you can do so here:

    https://shop.luzern.com/en/stories/luzern-interlaken-express

    • Scroll to Lucerne-Interlaken Direct and click on Reserve seat / Buy ticket
    • Complete the From & To fields with Interlaken Ost and Luzern respectively
    • Complete the date field by clicking on the calendar icon and choosing the date from the popup calendar
    • Choose the appropriate class
    • Click on Next
    • Under the heading Number of travellers, click on the plus sign to increase the number of travellers to 2 (or more if required)
    • Under the heading Outward trip, click on the departure time that suits you
    • Scroll down to the seat diagram
    • The system will have automatically chosen seats for you, shown in dark green
    • If you don’t like those seats, click on them to unselect them, then click the light green seats you prefer. As you select them they will turn dark green. The dark bar on each seat represents the back of the seat.
    • Click on Next
    • Complete name and birthdate details for each passenger.
    • Leave the reduction as “Only reservation” if your trip will be covered by a pass, or you are buying your ticket separately; otherwise choose the appropriate option: No discount to buy a reservation + full fare ticket; Half Fare Travelcard to buy a reservation + a half fare ticket etc
    • Click Add to Cart and complete checkout
    • If you take too long, the system will cancel your booking, and you will need to start over again. The seats you originally chose will probably show up as booked, so if you want to choose those seats again, you need to wait for a while until the system releases them.

    Hope this helps!

You haven’t indicated which month you’ll be traveling.  On the trips I’ve made to Switzerland (usually in June-early July or Sept), I’ve never made reservations.  I do use a 1st class Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/) , and those cars are never full.  Perhaps in “high summer” they can get very full, especially in 2nd class.  Also, travel can get busy at the start and end of the work day.

If you are traveling on October, then there shouldn’t be any problems.  In the mountain towns, many hotels and restaurants are closed; there can be few visitors.

    Hello,

Thank you so much for all the help

I used the site  provided for seat reservation and I was able to do it. You were right about if you’re taking so long to decide it will cancel my booking and tried to do it again without waiting and the original seats I chose keep doubling up. Very stressful. I just hope I selected the seats that will give us the best views. I read that seats on the right side are the best.

    Best,

    Cora

    Hi Cora,

Glad you managed to secure your seat reservations.

I am sure if the carriage you are in, and if it’s not too busy, you could easily move to another empty seat if you were not happy with the views but yes, most agree on the right is best for the views.

The Lucerne-Interlaken Express is apart of the GoldenPass route, you can read more about this route in the attached link:

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
