Accommodation in Unterschächen, Stäubifall + other activities?

Short summary – read this first

Agniman is planning a visit to Stäubifall waterfall in Unterschächen, Uri, and is looking for advice on where to stay and how to reach the waterfall using public transport. They found that bus B408 goes to Urigen but want to know the best stop to see the waterfall and what other attractions there are in the area.

Key takeaways:
  • Take bus 408 from Altdorf UR, Bahnhof Ost to Unterschächen, Ribi, and then hike for about an hour to Stäubifall waterfall.
  • Consider staying in Brunnen by Lake Lucerne, which is a convenient base for other excursions and about 55 minutes from the Ribi cable car.
  • After June, bus frequency increases, making travel more convenient.
  • If you enjoy hiking, look into the Nideralp mountain hike to experience a moderate loop trail to Staüben Falls.

    Hi Agniman,

I haven’t been there myself, but here is some information:

You get bus 408 from Altdorf UR, Bahnhof Ost to Unterschächen, Ribi and then hike for about an hour to the waterfall, and return the same way.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi Agniman,

I haven’t been, but am planning to go to Staubifall in late August next year and can share some information with you.

If you enjoy hiking, perhaps consider a more enjoyable, slightly longer, moderate loop trail (Nideralp mountain hike to Staüben Falls). In addition to the information that Alpenrose 555 provided to you, I’ve included a link below, which was recently updated and including map, and all other details if you are interested in this alternative hiking route.

After June the buses run on a more frequent timetable.

Link below lists all the Ribi cable car information:

I cannot recommend accommodations in Unterschächen. However, we plan to stay in the town of Brunnen located on Lake Lucerne, which works as a great base for the other excursions we have planned. The hotel is approx 55 mins to the Ribi cable car.  Hotel link below:

Hope this helps in your planning process!
