Hi all, my boyfriend and I (23 & 27) are hoping to visit Switzerland for a short Easter break next year, Friday 2nd April – Monday 5th April and we would be flying in from the UK. We have the option to fly into 3 places, first preference would be to fly into Geneva, next preference would be to fly to Zurich and last choice would be to fly into Basel. These preferences are purely based on flight times/price.

I am wondering if anyone can give me any suggestions on an itinerary/places to see? We are completely open to suggestions we just want to be based in a place where we can have a meal and few drinks in the evening and close enough to different places where we can see some of the amazing scenery during the day. Any other activities people could recommend would be great too!

Thank you, we are now looking to stay in Montreux, could you please help me with some advice on what scenic trips/sites we could visit and how we best go about this? We are only going to be there Friday – Monday so want to make the most of it, it would be early April we are there so want to make sure that we are choosing the best options for that time of year? Would love to hear your recommendations for this part of the country!

Hi Mmcloughlin1,

Montreux is a great choice (one of my favourite town in the Lake Geneva area).

I definitely recommend visiting the Chillon castle at least from outside: http://www.myswissalps.com//chilloncastle. If you are fancy of the boat trips, do not miss the opportunity to travel on a 100 years old steamboat from Montreux (even from Chillon) to Lausanne – so you can also see the UNESCO heritage Lavaux vineyard.More info here: http://www.myswissalps.com/boatlakegeneva. You can take the train from Lausanne back to Montreux. If you like museums, do not miss the Olimpic Museum in Lausanne (not far from the harbour).

Going to Rochers-de-Naye is also a wonderful option from Montreux: http://www.myswissalps.com/rochersdenaye.

If you would like to taste Swiss chocolate and cheese, you can visit easily Maison Cailler and La Maison du Gruyère. You can go there by regular train and bus (check the timetable) or by the Chocolate Train: http://www.myswissalps.com/chocolatetrain. Gruyères is the charming town where you find La Maison du Gruyère, also worth a visit with its small but very interesting museums and castle. If you like cheese, do not miss the famous Swiss cheese fondue 😉
