Do cable cars operate in rain/snow in Switzerland?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is arriving in Lucerne tomorrow afternoon and will be there until Tuesday with their parents and 4-year-old son. They plan to visit Mount Titlis on Sunday, Mount Pilatus on Monday, and Mount Rigi on Tuesday, but are concerned about rain and snow impacting their plans. They want to know if the cable cars and trains will operate normally during this weather.

Key takeaways:
  • Train and cable car services will typically run in rain or snow, but check the specific mountain websites for daily updates.
  • You can buy the Tell Pass at the Lucerne train station or online; for a last-minute purchase, it's better to get it at the station.
  • Euros are accepted at SBB train stations but not widely at other businesses in Switzerland.

    Hi

I will be reaching Lucerne tomorrow afternoon , will be staying till Tuesday.

my plan is to visit titlis on Sunday , Pilatus on Monday , rigi on Tuesday.

I have my parents and my 4 year old son , planning to use cog wheel train in Pilatus since cable cars are on maintenance. And in rigi I LL do the boat , train n cable car combined. And titlis it will be the cable car. I will be buying the 3 day teller pass.

The temperature shows it LL be raining / snow. It is difficult to replan since we are on holiday from India. Will the cable cars and trains be available for the next 4 days ?

Hi Abinaya chan and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Yes, the trains and cable cars will be running as normal during rain or snow. Perhaps a major wind storm could stop the cable cars from running.

I’d check the website for each mountain you plan on visiting each morning to see how the weather looks. Due to clouds you may have limited views once at the top.

Yes, you can buy the Tell Pass at Lucerne train station or online here: http://www.myswissalps.com/te llpasswinter/price but for your last minute purchase I’d buy at the station.

Euros will be accepted at the SBB train station but not at many other businesses around Switzerland: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfranc
