I will traveling to Switzerland on first and second week of December and I will stay in Zermatt on 12/5/2022 to 12/7/2022. My questions as below:

    1. Is there any easy walking/ hiking trail in Zermatt during that period?

    2. Any sledging/ Toboggan available in Zermatt during December? If not, any others places/ town can have sledging or toboggan? I will be in Switzerland from 12/1 to 12/15.

    Thanks.

    Hi decevon,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

The cogwheel train to Gornergrat and the cable car and gondola to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise operate all year round. So perhaps you might some accessible and groomed trails along the route to these two destinations. Many of the mountains lifts will also be running by December if the snow condition is good. The Tourist Information Centre near the Zermatt train station is the best place to find out open hiking trails and toboggan runs.

If there has been enough snow the sledging run Rotenboden will be open. There are walking paths around Zermatt but the condition under foot depends a lot on what has happened with the weather this year. If significant snow falls, prepared winter walking trails will open, if not they could be a mixture of mud and slush making them difficult to walk or the authorities might declare them closed.

The classic walk which gives good views of the Matterhorn and is always open is the path to Zmutt
