Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Lucerne in December – suggest activities

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named MarieD is planning a trip to Switzerland in December with their adult children for four nights in either Lauterbrunnen or Wengen, followed by two nights in Lucerne. They seek suggestions for day trips and which location has more activities since they don’t ski.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider reading guides for the Jungfrau region and non-ski winter activities for inspiration.
  • Wengen is recommended for its deeper location in the Jungfrau region, which may offer more options for day trips.
  • Use the Swiss timetable to plan feasible trips from either Lauterbrunnen or Wengen.

We have travel in Switzerland during the summer and love the mountains and hiking. This time we are going in Dec and taking adult children for their first visit. We are not skiers. We plan to stay either in Lauterbrunnen (stayed before) or Wengen (never seen) for 4 nights and see sites from there and then spend 2 nights in Lucerne.  Any suggestions of day trips/ sites from Lauterbrunnen or Wengen. Which is better to stay with things to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Hi MarieD,

To start with, I recommend you take a read of our Jungfrau region guide and our guide for a non-ski winter holiday for some inspiration.

As for Lauterbrunnen vs Wengen.  Personally I prefer Wengen.  It is located slightly further into the Jungfrau region.  Perhaps gauge a few trips from both locations and see what would be feasible for you and your family.  You can use the Swiss timetable (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/).

More on Wengen in the link below:

I hope this gets you started.  Do reach out if you have further questions.

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda
