An incredibly stupid question but I’m getting multiple answers on the Internet.

What bus line do I take from the Zermatt train station to the Matterhorn gondola station? I’m getting route 571, the red line and a couple of other answers. So when we leave the train station and cross the open area to the road and the bus station, which bus should we take to get out to Matterhorn gondola station. Easy question but when I go on the Internet I get different answers depending on which web site I explore. Thanks.

    Hi stodgytj,

The Klein Matterhorn base station is located at the far end of the town, about 20 minutes walk from the train station. Alternatively, you can take an electric bus directly from the train station. More details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/kleinmatterhorn/gettingthere

You can also view the Matterhorn up close from Gornergrat and Sunnegga. The Gornergrat base station is located directly opposite Zermatt train station whereas the Sunnegga valley station is about 5 minutes walk from the Gornergrat station. Further information in the following links:

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately you didn’t answer my question. There appear to be three separate bus lines that stop at the train station. I was just looking for a definitive answer as to which bus to take to the Matterhorn station. I have three web sites that have given me three different answers (Red line, 571 and some other designation) so I was wondering if you knew which bus line to take. I don’t want to get on the wrong bus and head off in a totally different direction. Thanks for getting back to me. The web site you pointed me to doesn’t identify the bus line. It just says I can take an electric bus to the gondola station. Doesn’t identify which line to take. Anyway, thanks. I enjoy your web site.

I far as I know there are two e-bus lines, red and green. Both go the the Matterhorn Glacier cable car, south end of town. One will stop on the lower level, where you cross a bridge and then take an elevator up to the cable car area. You can find more information and schedule at this website, http://www.e-bus.ch/home.html. Have a great trip. (There is no bus station, just bus stops.)

Anna, the link you sent regards to Sunnegga – rothhorn cable operation date is off from the time table issued In ticketing website ! The timetable says the last date to rothorn is 10/1 and the link says 10/8 ? Is it just recently updated which I don’t know ? I will be there on 10/8, so I am aware of not able to go all the way up to rothorn but Blauherd only !

    thanks

    Hi fionatravel!

The official summer timetable pdf for Sunnegga-Rothorn, to be downloaded from http://www.matterhornparadise.ch/en/Information/Operating-hours/Open-Lifts-and-Pistes, still mentions October 8 which matches the dates at https://www.myswissalps.com/kleinmatterhorn/gettingthere.

If it concerns ticket purchase through http://www.matterhornparadise.ch/en/Information/Tickets-prices/Single-and-return-tickets-all-year-: I just did a dummy booking and I’m able to select October 8 for a return trip Zermatt-Blauherd. A ticket for Zermatt-Rothorn indeed does not seem to be available after October 1 and I’m not sure why that’s the case. Anyway, if you’ll only be traveling as far as Blauherd this shouldn’t pose a problem. If you have further questions about the Rothorn operation dates, it might be best to get in touch with Zermatt Tourism or the Matterhorn Paradise website.

Yes, I went back to double check , the time table does show Oct 8 but Somehow I did marked 10/1 on my planner May be from my dummy booking or other sources ! Anyway just visiting the lake and hike down is good for me in case the rothorn is not available!

    thanks
