Best route and rail pass Zurich to Crans Montana

Short summary – read this first

Mike is arriving in Zurich on October 1 and needs advice on traveling to Crans-Montana. He'll stay there until the 6th and plans to take day trips to Interlaken and Lucerne. Since it's their first trip to Switzerland, he is seeking guidance on train passes and activities.

Key takeaways:
  • Check the SBB timetable for train connections from Zurich to Crans-Montana, as you'll need to change trains in Visp and Sierre/Siders.
  • Consider focusing on nearby regions for day trips instead of traveling far to Interlaken and Lucerne.
  • If you plan to travel every day, an 8-day Swiss Travel Pass might be the best option for you.

I will be arriving in Zurich on Oct 1 at 8:30 AM and wondering the best way to get to Crans-Montana. We will be there until the 6 and then returning to Zurich. We were thinking of taking day trips to Interlaken and Lucerne. Should we purchase a train pass and if so which one? Lastly, any suggestions on activities would be appreciated. We’ve never been to Switzerland and may never be able to return. Thanks for the help and suggestions, Mike

    Hi MikeM65, welcome to MySwissAlps!

All connections from Zurich (http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich) to Crans-Montana can be found with the aid of the SBB timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable. The easiest ones require to changes of trains in Visp and in Sierre/Siders, where you’ll change to a bus to Crans-Montana.

Do you plan to make day trips to Interlaken (http://www.myswissalps.com/in terlaken) and Lucerne (http://www.myswissalps.com/lu cerne) while based in Crans-Montana? That would be really far off. You’d best consult the timetable to find traveling times. If Crans-Montana is your base for 6-7 days, I suggest you focus on nearby regions instead:

Which pass is best, depends on many details and should be calculated as explained at http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses. If you expect to be traveling every day, an 8 day Swiss Travel Pass might make most sense: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass.
