Dear all, it seems you need a PHD in maths to figure out which transportation pass is the best for your needs. Concrete question below begging you guys for a concrete answer (not a redirect to an excel sheet or to all possible passes). We are two adults and one 15 y.o. and need to travel 3 full days. In total, we need these trips:

    Day 1: Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch
    Jungfraujoch to eigergletcher:
    Alpiglen to grindelwald

    Day 2: Stechelberg- Birg (retour)
    Day 3: Grindelwald-first (retour)

We have a car and we do not plan to use any trains, just gondolas up the mountain. Which pass would you suggest? Thank you so much and PLEASE tell me just the name of the pass you think it’s best.

    Gratefully yours.

    Hi Amanea,

No worries, there’s no need to do the maths. That’s only needed if price is your top priority and your itinerary is 100% fixed. Then, you can compare passes in detail, price wise.

In your case I’d buy the Jungfrau Travel Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass/price. I’m assuming you’ll be traveling before late October. After that it is not valid. A Swiss Half Fare Card is a good alternative in that case: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard/price. But it requires you to buy tickets for each trip.

Hi Arno, yes, we will be travelling from 6.08-10.08 and would only need a pass for 7,8 and 9th.08.

I think the Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland would be better because (please correct me if I am wrong) the Jungfrau Travel Pass is not covering at all Stechelberg- Birg (retour). Would that be correct?

    Thank you

    Hi Amanea,

The Jungfrau Travel Pass allows free traveling to Mürren, and a 25% discount between Mürren and Schilthorn. The Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland allows free traveling to Mürren, and a 50% discount between Mürren and Schilthorn.

You’ll see discounts of all relevant passes listed under “Get a discount with your rail pass” at http://www.myswissalps.com/schilthorn/tickets. You can also compare validity by browsing the lists of activities and downloading the validity maps at https://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass/validity and https://www.myswissalps.com/regionalpassberneseoberland/validity.

I don’t think that the difference in Schilthorn discounts justifies getting a Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland in your case. The Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland covers a larger area than you need, and is therefore more expensive. It also offers less discount for the Jungfraujoch journey than the Jungfrau Travel Pass does: see “Get a discount with your rail pass” at http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch/tickets.

I hope this helps you decide.

Oh, thank you. With the 25% discount (which I did not see, the jungfrau pass is the best indeed.

    Many thanks
