Hello. I and another person will be travelling to Switzerland staying 1 and a half day in Zurich (not planning to do any travelling there except on foot), and then move on to Lauterbrunnen by train, staying for 5 days. From there we are planning to visit, by train and cable cars, Shynige Platte, Murren and Allmendhubel, Wengen, Kleine Sheidegg and possibly Jungfraujoch, and a boat ride to Lake Thun. We may also take some other trains and cable cars to other places if we would have time. Our base will be at Lauterbrunnen. This is my first time in Switzerland, and am not sure what pass to buy. I was going to buy the Swiss Travel Pass, but am considering also the Jungfrau Travel Pass instead. And if tickets are bought online, is there any chance that you can buy them not date specific? Any recommendations would be extremely helpful. Thank you for your help

    Hi Em Paul,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Based on your plans, a 5-day Jungfrau Travel Pass might give you the best value. With the Jungfrau Travel Pass, you don’t need to additional tickets as most of the mountain transportation are included in the pass. So you can just hop off and hop off as you wish. You can check out the JTP validity map here: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass/validity

Let us know if you need more info.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi Em Paul,

I agree with Anna that a Jungfrau Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass) seems to be a good fit.

Alternatively you can consider the Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland: https://www.myswissalps.com/regionalpassberneseoberland. It covers a much wider area. So if your other plans include trips outside of the immediate Jungfrau region, this pass is worth looking into.

Hi Anna and Arno, thank you for your help, much appreciated. I think I will go for the Jungfrau Travel Pass since I will be staying at Lauterbrunnen. May I ask another question please, if we are going to Jungfraujoch, and the Jungfrau Travel Pass does not cover it all, will I have to buy the ticket to the top from Eigergletscher , or can I buy it at the base of the trip or online?

Thank you for your kind help

    Hi Em Paul,

With the Jungfrau Travel Pass, your trip to Jungfraujoch is partly free and partly discounted. You only need to pay for the last section of the trip, which is between Eigergletscher and Jungfraujoch at a fixed priced of CHF75 return. For details on how to travel to Jungfraujoch: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch/gettingthere

You can buy the tickets from any Jungfrau Railway station such as Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen and Wengen. Be sure to present your Jungfrau Travel Pass at the counter.

    Regards,

    Anna

If I may add to my question, from the Jungfrau Travel map validity area, if I am seeing correctly, the train connection between Lauterbrunnen and Wengen is not included in the Jungfrau Travel Pass. Correct?

    Thank you.

    Hi Em Paul,

It is included too. Solid lines on the map indicate free travel: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass/validity.
