Day trips from Interlaken with Swiss Travel Pass

Short summary – read this first

A traveler plans a family vacation at Hotel Interlaken for two nights at the end of April. They want to visit Murren, Gimmelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and Schilthorn in a day, seeking advice on efficient travel with minimal hiking. They already have Swiss Travel Passes.

Key takeaways:
  • Take the cable car from Stechelberg to Gimmelwald, then to Murren, and finally to Schilthorn for a scenic experience without hiking.
  • Check for spring maintenance schedules since some routes may be closed during that time.
  • Consider adding a visit to Trümmelbach Falls if time allows, as it's a spectacular attraction nearby.

Hello and thank you in advance for any guidance.

Vacationing with a family of three, staying at the Hotel Interlaken for two nights the end of April. We would like to do a day trip to visit Murren, Gimmelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and Schilthorn. We have Swiss Travel Passes and would like to know the best / most efficient way to accomplish visiting all of these locations, minimizing the amount of hiking if possible. Thoughts on additional must see attractions while in the area are appreciated.

    Thank you again!

Interlaken to Schilthorn involves no ‘hiking’ whatsoever, just a few paces walking here and there, since both ways to reach Murren are rail or cableway links, with a short bus link between Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg on the Gimmelwald route.

    The two routes are:

Interlaken – Lauterbrunnen – Stechelberg – Gimmelwald – Murren – Schilthorn. Beware closure for spring maintenance Stechelberg – Murren 24 – 28 April

    Interlaken – Lauterbrunnen – Grutschalp – Murren – Schilthorn

    Hi DJL1,

A day trip to Mürren, Gimmelwald, Lauterbrunnen and Schilthorn can be done in one day by train and mountain transportation. Minimal hiking required. You can find further details below:

From Interlaken you can also plan boat trips on Lake Thun: http://www.myswissalps.com/boatlakethun

    Hi DJL1,

You can take the cable car up from Stechelberg to Gimmelwald and then hike to Mürren and then take the cable car all the way up to the Schilthorn. Or take the cable cable car straight up to the Schilthorn and walk back from Mürren to Gimmelwald or straight down to Stechelberg.

If you have some time left i recommend visiting the spectacular Trümmelbach Falls when they are open.

    Have a great trip

    Martin
