The Swiss Half Fare Card is only valid in Switzerland. To reach Switzerland by rail from France, most people use TGV Lyria high speed trains, see (and buy tickets Paris – Switzerland) Lyria web site here: http://www.tgv-lyria.com/fr/en

    Hi Joel applega,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

With the Swiss Half-Fare Card you only half-price of the standard train tickets in Switzerland. You can get more details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard. However this discount won’t apply to the French portion of your trip: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard/validity. You can find more information about buying tickets for travel between France and Switzerland here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/france

Let us know if you need more info.

    Regards,

    Anna

Is there anyone i can get with to bounce my itinerary off of? Getting a bit overwhelmed with everything.. Biggest decision is what rail pass to go with.. Thinking the half fare card makes the most sense but would love to talk to someone that has been there before… first time in switzerland and first time in europe for like 15ish years

    Hi Joel applega,

If you don’t mind, you can share your itinerary here. We would be happy to provide feedback and suggest which railpass might be the best option for you.

Also, you can read about the various Swiss railpasses here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses

You might also find some useful insights about choosing the best rail pass here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

My biggest questions as stated above revolve around transportation.. I have done some comparing and half fare card seems to make the most sense.. and combine it with the Jungfrau top of Europe pass.. so we can go to Jungfraujoch and have “free” travel for the first half of the trip.

Would love to have any feedback and/or recommendation of things to do in these areas

    Travel from Paris

    – Paris Gare de Lyon station to Basel (12:22-3:30)

    – Basel to Spiez (4:28-6:02)

    -Spiez to Interlaken Ost (6:05 – 6:26)

    -Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen (6:35 – 6:55)

-Take one final train or bus to Murren

    8/30

    -Get into Murren around 7:30

    -Check into Hotel Alpenruh

-Just find a nice restaurant and relax

    8/31

    (1-Day) Lauterbrunnen/Murren/Wegen-

    -Thrill Walk

    -Trummelbach Falls

    -Walk around towns

    -Hike

    9/1

    (1-Day) Grindelwald/Kleine-Scheidegg/Jungfraujoch

    -Grindelwald-First

    -Maybe Hike to Bachalpsee

-train to Kleine Scheidegg and hike before catching train to Jungfraujoch

    9/2

    (1day) Interlaken

    – Possibly Paraglide

    – Explore Interaken

    – Possible boat tours (Not sure if its worth it)

9/3-9/5 Rapperswil-Jona( staying here because we have enough marriott points to stay for free

-Train to Lucerne for a day and explore

-Train to Zurich for a day and explore

    Hi Joel applega,

Are you going to travel in the Lake Lucerne region too? If yes, I recommend the Swiss Travel Pass for your itinerary, you can check the validity here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity. Make sure to check the map and also browse the list.

As you are coming from Paris, make sure to check this one too: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/france.

At the link (http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass) that Anna has shared with you, you’ll find a calculation spreadsheet. It is very useful if you would like to compare your total costs with different passes (like Swiss Half Fare Card + Jungfrau Travel Pass OR Swiss Travel Pass).

At http://www.myswissalps.com/interlaken/activities you can find recommended paragliding companies. Use the filter to narrow down your search.
