We arrive in Wengen for one month on Wednesday. Have a couple of questions about the GA one month card as I am currently comparing with Half Fare Card.

    1. Can we purchase at Zurich train station?

    2. Does the GA one month card cover gondolas and other mountain transportation?

    3. Are there restrictions on the GA Card that we need to consider as we compare with Half Fare Card?

    Thanks

    Hi Mary R,

I think the GA and Half Fare Card are only available for residents in Switzerland. For international visitors, I would recommend getting the Swiss Travel Pass or the Swiss Half Fare Card. Both travel passes can be purchased online and at the Zurich Airport train station. The Swiss Travel Pass is similar to the GA, providing unlimited rides for up to 14 consecutive days on public transport including trains, boats, trams and buses. You can also use it to get discounts on tickets for mountain railways and cable cars. The Swiss Half Fare Card works just like the Half Fare Card. Hi Mary,

I believe there is a one month half fare card for travel in Switzerland. Check with myswissalps.com to find out where to get it.

Personally, I like to spend 90 days at a time in Switzerland so I purchase the half fare card for one year using a Swiss family member’s address. I find it to be the best way to travel all over Switzerland, and I use it twice in one year. I purchase that at Zürich Airport when I arrive and use it immediately to travel to one of my relatives homes.

    Good luck!

Hi Mary_R! Wonderful that you’ll be visiting Wengen for a full month.

Please find rail pass options for long stays at http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/details under “Alternatives if you stay longer than 15 days”. At this same page, the differences

are addressed. I hope this clarifies things.

I too think that a Swiss Half Fare Card (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard) might make sense in your case. You could add a discounted Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland (http://www.myswissalps.com/regionalpassberneseoberland) or Jungfrau TravelPass (http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass/price) if you plan to use local mountain transportation a lot.

This page explains how to find the right pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.
