Hello, my family and I are planning to ski a day in zermatt and was intrigued by the intl pass that goes into Italy. My family usually skis blues and sometimes reds but can anybody tell me how difficult this run is and how long the roundtrip usually will take? I emailed them and they said it’s mostly red but trails are wide and not that difficult. Though I also understand the level of difficulty is harder than what we know here in the US. Can anyone share their experiences? I don’t want my family to be stuck midway because it’s just too difficult to complete. Also, we are staying in the northern part of town by Spissstrasse, which is where a lot of hotels are but on the map, it looks rather far to zermatt ski paradise. I’m assuming there are shuttles to and from.

I am a regular visitor for skiing in Zermatt. Spiss is the rather industrial northern part of Zermatt, not the ‘quaintest’ bit

As regards Cervinia, I have done it quite a few times (to benefit from cheaper food at Bontadinis restaurant on the Cervinia red slopes. It is a nice trip if you are staying in Zermatt for a full week, but just for one day it might be too much effort to reach. Some pistes in Zermatt are on Google street view. Most slopes on the Italian border area are wide open . I think you would be OK

To reach Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car base station at the south end of the village, catch the E-bus Zermatt GREEN LINE from Untere Matten or Spiss bus stop:

    a 10 minutes journey

“The itinerary had great detail and a good choice of activities in each location. Very helpful to group things that can be done in the same day. Love that the options are linked to the website.”

I looked out some pictures taken quite a long time ago, but the terrain is still the same. In order they show the summit ridge with Italy to the left of the brown rock and Switzerland to the right; looking down on the Italian side; and looking down the slopes on the Swiss side towards Zermatt village

    Hi AvaT,

As you are probably aware, many factors can affect skiing, including your own skiing abilities. That said, my understanding is skiing from Zermatt to Cervinia (and return) is doable in a day, however just be aware of the lift closing times so you are not left stranded in Italy.

As per 1960man, it may be worth doing it another time if you are there for a longer period, to alleviate any ‘stress’ of ensuring you are back in a timely manner. Zermatt is car-free , getting around is typically by foot or the e-Buses: https://www.myswissalps.com/zermatt/travel.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
