Hi – I have planned my swiss visit as follows, but the predictions suggest that the weather is going to be rainy. Any activities / plans do you suggest if it rains bad? Any alternative suggestions for my itinerary. Accommodation wise I am based at Lucerne / Weggis

When it is raining there are still plenty of fun activities. The two cities I would suggest when it is raining is Bern or Lucerne.

In Bern you could explore the city. There are two main shopping streets: Kramgasse and Gerechtigkeitsgasse. These two main shopping streets are in the centre of the Old town. It is lined with six kilometers of arcades, which means you will be protected from the rain, so no umbrella is needed.

Around this area, there is the Einsteinhaus Museum. This is the actual apartment he lived in when he developed his Theory of Relativity.

Also nearby is the Clock tower in Bern, it also called Zytglogge, and it is landmark site in Bern.

In Lucerne there are numerous activities you could do such as: The Museum of Transportation, take a boat

trip on the Lake of Lucerne, or take the Golden Pass train route. Please take a look at the below links.

I have provided the trip details in the first message. I am little confused on the panormic trains that I can take for those trips. Can you please guide me? And also, I didnt find a way to choose those trains on SBB mobile app. So how will I choose those or identify those trains?

Hello Preetham K.,

The only labelled “panoramic” train in your above itinerary is the Golden Pass route between Lucerne and Interlaken, the other journeys are utterly scenic, too, however not labelled as such! I usually say it’s the surrounding that’s scenic, not the train, and from this point of view all the train journeys are panoramic.

You don’t need to choose a specific train for travelling, as tickets (and also rail passes) are normally valid during the entire day on the selected route, normally without any reservation:
