Hi

we are visiting switzerland for 5 days ariving in zurich on 26 October.planning to visit lucern,and zurich with swiss travel pass.please suggest some good day trip excursions from lucern as planning to stay in lucerne for3days . Wanted to travel in boats as well,as kids will enjoy the scenic rides .well I am planning to visit interlaken also and 2days in zurich as we have to take our flight back from zurich which is in morning. We are in switzerland for five days but we can book our travel pass for only 4days this means we have to buy extra point to point tickets for 5th day please suggest some better options for the travel pass which is best suited for 5day travel. It would be nice to have weather conditions in October ending as travelling with children

For ideas of what to do in Zurich click here and Luzern click here. I would spend more time in Luzern over Zurich – much more to do, especially outdoor activities. Perhaps just book your last night in Zurich and the other 3 nights in Luzern?

The Swiss Travel Pass for 4 days is your best option I think. If on the last day your only trip is from Luzern to Zurich (or Zurich to Zurich airport) then the point to point ticket would be relatively cheap.

Weather is hard to know in advance of course but I would expect the mountain tops to be quite cold – 0 or 5 degrees Celsius if you are lucky in late October. In the towns it would be maybe a max of 10 degrees. Have a look at the weather forecast for the towns before you travel to get an idea for packing – the mountain forecasts aren’t reliable until 24 hours before.

thanks so much for your instant and helpful advice. Well we are planning to go to Rihne falls in zurich that’s why we are staying there for 2days and we can do some sightseeing for zurich as well .was concerned about the luggage as how can we travel with our luggage and were we can keep it in train from zurich airport to lucern and back as well and after that do we need to take taxi from lucern station to our hotel which is hotel continental park lucern

Ok, if you want to explore Zurich and the RheinFall that would work for you.

As for luggage, there would be no issue bringing it on the train with you. The Hotel Continental in Luzern is a 5 minute walk from the Luzern train station – nice and easy!
