Too many Swiss rail passes to keep straight!
A traveler is planning two train trips in Switzerland: one from Lucerne to Mt. Pilatus and another from Interlaken to Gimmelwald, followed by a return to Lucerne. They are seeking advice on whether purchasing a travel pass would save them money on these trips, especially considering a prior journey from Milan to Lucerne.
- Consider the Swiss Travel Pass if your travel includes multiple train trips as it might offer savings.
- Buying separate tickets from Milan to Lucerne may be more economical depending on current ticket prices.
- Check the exact discounts available for seniors, as they could reduce costs significantly.

So many different passes, it is hard to understand which, if any, are a better deal. We would like to do 2 train trips: 1) out of Lucerne to Mt. Pilatus via boat to Alpnachstad, cog wheel train up, gondola down, back to Lucerne and 2) out of Interlaken, go to Gimmelwald (have a car so could drive to Gimmelwald), then up to Schilthorn and back to Lucerne. These trips would be 2 days apart. Is there any savings in buying a pass for those 2 outings? Then to make it a bit more complicated, preceding these 2 trip days, we will be traveling from Milan to Lucerne the day before the Mt. Pilatus trip (so train travel would be on Sunday, Monday, & Wednesday). If that trip is thrown into the mix with the other 2, does that change what pass might work better? Or is is better just to buy a train ticket from Milan to Lucerne separately? There are 5 adults traveling, 2 of which are seniors.
