    Hi.

I will be travelling to Switzerland in 4 days time. Would like to ask how the weather is now. I will be in Grindelwald next Tuesday. I have packed winter jackets for Glacier 3000, Jungfraujoch and Glacier Paradise.

I have question about the weather in towns too. I have been looking at current day’s temperatures. Some sites says 21 degree Celsius some sites are 16. Which site is more accurate? What wind speed is considered to be strong wind.

I am preparing for cold weather that feels like 16 degree Celsius. Will I be over prepared. And I think I prepared layering for my clothings. And rain coats (disposable type).

I would like to know which is a reliable site or it is difficult to rely on forecasts.

    thank you.

    Lois.

    Hi Lois,

I use the MeteoSwiss app and I find it quite reliable. Have a look at the animations too, within the app. The forecasts are somewhat reliable for 2 to 3 days ahead of time. The forecasts of the prior evening and the same morning are 75% to 100% accurate, according to our experience. Learn more: http://www.myswissalps.com/weather/forecast.

Webcams on the mountain tops are also useful to see for example the snow conditions.

Note, that the weather in Switzerland can change in a minute – sometimes not even according to the forecasts. Weather in towns is always warmer with less wind.

16 C degrees with sun can feel warmer than 20 C degrees in the shadow. Especially in the mountains. Make sure to have some suncream with you.

Regarding the clothes: dress in layers and bring wind/rain coats with you. If you are going to hike, this page will be useful for you: http://www.myswissalps.com/hiking/preparation

    I hope these help,

    Ildiko

    Hi Lois,

I agree with Ildiko, in the mountains best to dress in layers. A jacket may be needed to keep warm at higher elevations. At lower elevations, we’ve had temperatures reaching over 25 deg C in the past few days. Been rather warm for May in general and most people can get away with wearing just T-shirt and shorts.

The 5-day forecast on MeteoSwiss is reasonably reliable.

    Regards,

    Anna
