1-day trip Lucerne-Bern, what else to add?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a one-day trip from Lucerne to Bern in late April. They’re curious about adding attractions like Montreux or exploring nearby areas during their trip. They also want suggestions for other activities near Interlaken, having visited the town before but not its surroundings.

Key takeaways:
  • Avoid Montreux for a one-day trip; it's too far from Bern.
  • Consider visiting closer towns like Murten, Neuchâtel, or Biel on your way back to Lucerne.
  • For Interlaken, activities like going to Harder Kulm or taking a boat trip on Lake Brienz are great options.
  • Use the timetable to check travel times and plan your day effectively.

Second question: can we add any other attraction to our one day trip to Interlaken. We had visited Interlaken town long time ago but had no opportuny to visit its surroundings? Thank you. IB

    Hello IB!

Montreux would be quite far off during a 1-day trip Lucerne-Bern. If you want to take your time in Bern (and it’s a town well worth exploring: https://www.myswissalps.com/bern), this can easily be a full-day trip without adding other activities. But here some options:

    • Travel back to Lucerne via the Emmen valley: a beautiful scenic train route. You may like a visit to the Kambly cookie factory in Trubschachen along the way: http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/culinary/chocolate.
    • Add a visit to Murten, Neuchâtel or Biel. These beautiful towns are closer to Bern than Montreux.
    • Travel back via a northern route and include a visit to Solothurn and/or Olten.

A visit to Interlaken from Lucerne certainly leaves room to add another activity. A few recommendations:

More options are here: https://www.myswissalps.com/interlaken/activities. Not all mountain tops are accessible in late-April yet, so check operation dates first.

I suggest you check all possible routes in the timetable: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable. This allows you to find traveling times from and to each destination, and piece together a day trip that works for you.

I hope this helps you out!

    Hi Igor,

The timetable shows which mode of transportation is available: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable. You can reach each of these towns by train.
