5 day Switzerland December itinerary with 3 kids
A traveler is planning a family trip to Switzerland from December 5th to 9th, focusing on experiencing snowfall and Christmas markets. They have a simple itinerary mainly based in Lucerne and are seeking advice on whether to add Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken for a night and if snowfall is likely during their visit.
- Consider staying at least one night in Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken to reduce travel time and explore more leisurely.
- Check out the major Christmas markets before finalizing your itinerary to include one that fits your interest.
- Keep in mind that early December may not guarantee snowfall, particularly at lower elevations; visiting higher mountains like Mt. Titlis is recommended for snow activities.

Hi,
I’m planning a family trip with 2 adult and 3 kids (age 12, 8, 8) to Switzerland in early December (around 5th-9th December) . This is our first winter trip. We would like to have experience on snowfall and Christmas market. My basic itinerary is:
Day 1 Reach Zurich airport around 1pm, take train to Lucern and stay in Lucern for 4 nights
Day 2 Exploring Lucern town.
Day 3 We will take Morning train from Lucern to Engelberg to go Mt. Titlis. We plan spend 1 day in Mt Titlis for kids to have fun with snow. Evening will return to Lucern
Day 4 From Lucern to Lauterbrunnen, visit staubbach falls and walking around in Lauterbrunnen to enjoy the beautiful scenery, visit Chrismas market. Return to Lucern after dinner.
Day 5 Lucern to Zurich, fly to Milan
Need some advice whether my itinerary is it too simple? Should I add in Interlaken or Wengen? Is it too early for snowfall on our travelling date? Basically we stay in Lucern only as we try not to move less as travel with kids. Is it a good idea to stay in Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken at least one night?
