A traveler named Ashul is planning a trip from Amsterdam to Interlaken in May. They want to know which train journey is more scenic and convenient: from Zurich or Basel. They are also looking for suggestions for activities during their visit and considering purchasing a Swiss Travel Pass for discounts on attractions.
Key takeaways:
For a scenic route, prefer the train from Zurich to Interlaken as it's slightly shorter.
Not a great deal to choose I would say. Pick the best airfare.
Use the SBB Timetable (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) to plan your travel and figure out how long it takes to get from a to b. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on this page (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable).
What are your other plans in Switzerland? Where else will you visit? Perhaps a Swiss Travel Pass will suit your itinerary. You should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math.
Did you know you can get a train from Amsterdam to Interlaken with one change at Basel? Takes just under 9 hours.

Thanks for your quick reply. The airfares are almost the same. So lets see. I am aware of the train connection from Amsterdam to Interlaken but 9 hours is a little too much and it just takes away the entire day in travelling.
In Switzerland my itinerary is as below:
Day 1: Reach Interlaken at about 1:00 pm in afternoon. Please suggest option for sightseeing for the day. I have shortlisted Unterseen / Harder Kulm / Trummelbach Falls (Night stay at Interlaken)
Day 2: Take the Cogwheel train to Jungfraujoch (night stay at Interlaken)
Day 3:Travel to Lucerne – Mount Titlis – / Explore Lucerne / Evening cruise (night stay at Lucerne)
Day4: In Lucerne – Please suggest activity / sightseeing for the day. –> Mt Rigi or Mt Pilatus? (night stay at Lucerne)
Day 5: Travel to Paris.
Yes I am planning to buy a 4 day STP which I believe shall give me discounts on the Jungfraujoch / Mt. Titlis trips?
Please suggest activities for Day 1 an Day 4 as per above itinerary. I am travelling with my wife.
If the airfares are the same then given the trips are pretty similar, I would go for Zurich which would save you about 10 mins as you can see if you use our timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable
Yes the Swiss Travel Pass gives you discounts to both Jungfraujoch (25% off the last leg of the trip) and Titlis (50% off the cable car from Engelberg), and many other mountain tops, which is an advantage if you want to change your plans last minute based on the weather: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity
For activities on Day 1 and 4, you can find plenty of information on these links:
As you are asking for suggestions for day 1, my 2 cents
– Trummelbach falls closes at 5 pm. So you may wanna do that first. It will take 1-2 hrs
-very close to Trummelbach falls is Stechelberg cable car station. You can visit the towns of Gimmelwald, Murren and go all the way up to Schilthorn by cable cars. These towns are very beautiful. With STP, this journey is free
