Are hiking trails open in mid to late June?
A traveler named rarecat is planning a trip to the Bernese Oberland in mid to late June, starting in Lucerne and visiting Lauterbrunnen, Bern, and Zermatt. They want to hike on Mt. Rigi and in the Lauterbrunnen area but need trails that are scenic and not too steep, as they are in their sixties. They are curious about trail conditions and snow presence during their visit.
- Most easier trails should be snow-free by mid to late June, especially on the northern sides which get more sunlight.
- The scenic walk from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg is recommended for its beauty and ease.
- Always budget extra time for hikes since trails are signposted with estimated times; take breaks to enjoy the scenery.
- Consider the Swiss Travel Pass for convenient access to public transport and discounts on mountain excursions.

I’m planning a trip to the Bernese Oberland in mid to late June starting with Lucerne, then going to Lauterbrunnen, Berne and Zermatt. Hoping to hike on Mt. Rigi and in the mountains near Lauterbrunnen. We are in our sixties so need scenic trails that are not too steep or too long. Questions:
On average, will there still be snow on the trails in mid- to late June in these areas?
Any suggestions for hikes would be helpful.
Thanks!
