    Hi,

We are spending 3 nights in Lucerne in early July and we are wanting to plan a day trip to visit Lauterbrunnen, Interlaken & Grindelwald from Lucerne. This is our first time in Switzerland and the train system is a little overwhelming. Can someone please recommend or point us in the right direction on which train pass would be best for us and what train route to take from Lucerne?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Sean

    Hi Sean,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps..

It’s easy to plan a day trip from Lucerne to the Jungfrau region to explore Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald and Interlaken. We recommend travelling on the Lucerne-Interlaken Express via the scenic route. This train departs hourly from Lucerne to Interlaken and takes about 1.5 hours. From Interlaken, there are regional trains that will take you to Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald. You can use the Swiss timetable (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/) to check train schedules.

If you’re really pressed for time, you can do the one-day Jungfrau Region trip (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/one-day-jungfrau-region/) which covers all the major highlights in the region.

For just a day trip, using a Saver Day Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/saver-day-pass/) may be practical as it allows you to hop on and off as you wish. However, if you are travelling in Switzerland over a number of days, it might worth getting a multi-day railpass that covers your stay and excursions from Lucerne.

You can find information about Swiss rail passes here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/tickets/

    Regards,

    Anna
