Central location cover Lucerne and Interlaken

Short summary – read this first

Kris is planning a family trip to Switzerland with 8 people from July 29 to August 4. They want to visit Interlaken and Lucerne but are unsure whether to stay in one location or split their time between both places, wondering about day trips and convenience.

Key takeaways:
  • For a better experience, consider splitting your stay between Interlaken and Lucerne, with around 3 nights in Interlaken and 2 nights in Lucerne.
  • When basing in Interlaken, a day trip to Mt. Titlis may be a bit far, while staying in Lucerne can make the Jungfrau trip more manageable.
  • Look for accommodations near train stations in both locations for easy travel between attractions.

    Hi,

We will be 2 family with total 8 people in Switzerland from July 29 to Aug 4. We plan to cover Interlaken and Lucerne attractions. Can you please suggest us whether we should stay in one location for 5 – 6 nights or should we make 2 base, say 3 nights in Interlaken and 2 in Lucerne ? If we stay in Interlaken will Mt. Titlis day trip be too long or if we stay near Lucerne how about Jungfru day trip or is there any place between Lucerne and Interlaken that will be more convenient ?

    Dates: Aug 29, 30, 31 near Interlaken , Aug 1 , 2 — Lucern.

Total: 6 adults and 2 kids of 12 and 15 years old. Prefer to stay near station at both the location.

    Thanks

    KRis

    Hi khetank,

I would recommend to make 2 base locations. One in Lucerne and one in the area of Interlaken; Wengen or Grindelwald for example.

When you click on the links you will also find a list of activities per location and hotel suggestions.
