Hello! I will be visiting Switzerland for the first time in May and am spending 3 days in Montreux. I would like to plan one day trip from Montreux and am struggling to decide whether to go to Zermatt, Glacier 3000 or Rochers de Naye. I would love some advice on which of these is a ‘must do’ and am also very open to suggestions for other day trips I should consider! Thanks in advance 🙂

Hi KelCor,

It depends on what you’d like to see and experience and how far you are willing to travel.

Zermatt (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/zermatt/) is about 2.5 hours by train from Montreux but makes a great day trip if you’d like to see the iconic Matterhorn. You would have enough time to ride the cogwheel train to Gornergrat (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/gornergrat/) and explore the town before returning to Montreux.

On the other hand, you could travel the opposite way and take the GoldenPass Panorama or Belle Epoque (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/goldenpass/) train Gstaad (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/gstaad) and make excursion to Glacier 3000 (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/glacier-3000/). The journey takes a little over 2 hours.

If you prefer not to travel far, I suggest a visit to Rocher-de-Naye (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/rochers-de-naye/) which is just above Montreux.
