Scenic bike ride suggestions for Lausanne, Wilderswil and Lucerne

Short summary – read this first

Rebecca is excited about her upcoming 12-day trip to Switzerland in September, where she'll stay in Lausanne, Wilderswil, and Lucerne. She's looking for suggestions on scenic bike rides in these areas and appreciates the advice she's received from MySwissAlps.

Key takeaways:
  • Cycle around Lake Lucerne and explore picturesque villages like Hergiswil and Beckenried.
  • For Wilderswil, consider cycling around Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, sticking to asphalt roads for an easier ride.
  • Use the Switzerland Mobility and Komoot apps for detailed cycle route planning.
  • Check out the scenic route from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen while in Wilderswil.

We are looking forward to an awesome 12 days in Switzerland in September, thanks to an itinerary that MySwissAlps helped us plan. We will stay in 3 base towns, Lausanne, Wilderswil and Lucerne. We would like to rent electric bikes and do some exploring and would love suggestions for scenic rides in those areas.

Thank you MySwissAlps for all of the awesome help and advice!

    Hi Rebecca,

That’s great to hear that you will be enjoying some bike riding here in Switzerland.  I think it’s a lovely way to enjoy the scenery.

Some ideas below.  Depending on how long you’d like to be out on the bikes each day, you can easily plan one-way cycles and then enjoy a train ride back or when in the Lucerne area,  a boat ride on Lake Lucerne.

    • Lucerne (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/lucerne/):  you can actually cycle around Lake Lucerne.  Stop off at many of the picturesque villages along the way – Hergiswil, Stansstad, Beckenried, Gersau, Vitznau, just to name a few. From Lucerne itself, there is also a popular cycle route to Lake Sempach – you could continue to cycle around the lake if you wanted.
    • Wilderswil:  you can actually cycle around Lake Thun, though I’d stick to the asphalt roads as some sections of this route is single trail and probably best for a mountain bike.  Most of Lake Brienz is doable too.
    • Lausanne (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/lausanne/): the Nord Vaudois–Jura, Mittelland and Herz routes are just three that I have heard of.

I recommend that you use the Switzerland Mobility and Komoot apps or websites to research cycle routes.  They both show the official and marked cycle routes.

    Have fun!

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda

    Hi Rebecca,

While in Wilderswil, I highly recommend the scenic route from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/lauterbrunnen/). Do check out Flying Wheels Interlaken. they provide guided e-bike tours and will also help out if you just want to do an independent e-bike tour of your own.

    Regards,
    Anna
