“Free” hikes around Interlaken & Lauterbrunnen

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a 6-night stay in Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen, focusing on hiking without using gondolas due to cost. They’re seeking suggestions for recommended hikes in the area that don’t require gondola rides and are open to various distances and difficulties.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider the valley walk to Stechelberg for a scenic experience without a gondola.
  • Hiking from Grindelwald to Alpiglen offers stunning views, though it requires good stamina.
  • For a longer stay like 6 nights, consider getting a Swiss Travel Pass to save on overall transportation costs.

Hi! We’ll be staying in Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen for 6 nights total. We’re big hikers and plan to do some of the major trails, but are hoping to only use the gondolas down on those (mostly because of cost of a round trip ticket). We just figure that since we’ll only be there a few days, it might not make sense to pay for a travel pass. So, question is, what are some recommended hikes in the region that do NOT require a gondola? We’re open to any distance or difficulty.
