Traveling Zermatt to Verona using Glacier Express

Short summary – read this first

Celest is planning a 7-day trip to Switzerland in September, stopping in Lucerne for one night and spending three nights each in Grindelwald and Zermatt before heading to Verona. She is considering taking the Glacier Express from Zermatt to Brig but is unsure if it's worth it for such a short distance and seeks advice on finalizing her route.

Key takeaways:
  • Avoid taking the Glacier Express from Zermatt to Brig, as it is not cost-effective for such a short trip.
  • Regular trains will provide a similar view and are faster for this leg of the journey.
  • Consider using the Swiss Travel Pass for flexible travel on rail services throughout your trip.

    Hi there,

we are in the midst of planning a 7 days trip to Switzerland in coming September, we will stop at Lucerne for a night then heading to Grindelwald and Zermatt for 3 nights each places. After Zermatt we will be travel to Verona.

we would like to take the Glacier express for enjoy the view, so thinking to take the Glacier express from Zermatt to Brig and from there change train to Verona via Milano. But it’s only 1 station from Zermatt to Brig by Glacier Express it is worth for the ride or travel by normal train also will share the same view and being faster?

is there any advice for us to finalise our route?

    Thank you in advance.

    Regards,

    Celest

Hello Celeste and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

It makes no sense to travel from Zermatt to Brig on the Glacier Express. You will pay a lot for compulsory reservations on such a short leg. The regular trains are fine.
