Interlaken, Wengen or Grindelwald as a base town
Abbii and her husband are planning a trip and considering staying in Interlaken for two nights to explore the area. However, they are also looking at accommodations in Wengen and Grindelwald, pondering whether to base themselves high in the mountains or in Interlaken. They want to know the pros and cons of each option and if staying in Interlaken would mean missing out on the experience.
- Choose a mountain village like Wengen or Grindelwald for better views and a more authentic Swiss experience rather than staying in Interlaken.
- Staying in a higher village means less need to travel back to Interlaken, as most sightseeing occurs in the mountains.
- Wengen is favored for its stunning views, size, and local amenities, making it a great base for exploring the Jungfrau region.
- Consider activities and scenery when selecting your accommodation; Grindelwald is known for its numerous activities and beautiful views.

hi
We are planning our trip and thought of stopping in Interlaken for two nights – one day of just being there, exploring. My husband has found both Wengen and Grindelwald accommodations so we are thinking of maybe staying up there instead. I think it is the mountain view rooms!!!
Question from me is where in this area should we base ourselves? If we stay up high in the mountains should we commute down to Interlaken to sight see? Are there advantages to one place over the other? Are we missing out if we don’t stay in Interlaken??
Again all advice is appreciated and thank you for your site.
Abbii
