Is it safe on the streets at night in Switzerland?

Short summary – read this first

Angel is planning a trip to various tourist spots in Switzerland, including Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, and Zermatt, and is curious about the safety of walking at night. They also want to know the timings for activities and when it gets dark in September, as they're new to these cities and concerned about getting lost.

Key takeaways:
  • It's generally safe to walk around the streets at night, but taking precautions is advised.
  • Most mountain activities and public transport usually operate until 5 or 6 PM, while restaurants and cafes stay open longer.
  • In September, it should still be bright around 6 PM, but nights are longer in winter.

All the tourist spot, activities all end until what time ? example cruise ride, and so on ? In september month, is the day time shorten than night time ? Mean, at 6pm the sky look almost dark. Because, we are tourist and new in each of the cities. Afraid get lost.

    Hi Angel,

Yes it’s fairly safe to walk on the steets at night time. However it’s good to take precautions even when you think it’s safe to walk around late at night.

In general, mountain destinations and transportations usually operate until 5 or 6pm. Most shops stay open until 6 or 7pm. Restaurants, cafes and clubs usually operate longer. Public transport usually operates till late night.

In September, I think 6pm would still be bright. The nights are longer in winter.

    Hope this addresses your concerns.

    Regards,

    Anna
