Stephinie is planning to take the Bernina Express train from Tirano to St Moritz and wants to know if she can use the Swiss Travel Pass for that journey. She also later shares a 7-day itinerary across several Swiss cities for advice on its feasibility.
Just to clarify that if you are only travelling Tirano – St Moritz, reservation is not obligatory – all trains on the Bernina Railway have some ordinary coaches
In case you’d like to check more details of the Swiss Travel Pass coverage: you can download a validity map and/or browse the list of covered attractions at https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity.
Hi guys :), thanks for your advice. Due to some reason, I have to change my itinerary. Need some advise from you guys, I wasn’t sure if itinerary below is workable. This is going to be our first trip to Switzerland (total 4 of us),and we are going on 2nd week of June.
Day 1. Flight from Porto to Geneva
Day 2. Geneva to Bern
Day 3. Bern to Interlaken
Day 4: Interlaken (Day trip to Handegg)
Day 5: Interlaken to Lucerne (Paragliding in Interlaken before going to Lucerne)
Day 6: Lucerne to Zurich
Day 7: Flight from Zurich to London
Or

Both options can work. The advantage of your first option is that you’ll also get to see the beautiful Lake Geneva area (https://www.myswissalps.com/lakegenevawest, https://www.myswissalps.com/lakegeneva). The pro of your 2nd option is that traveling times/distances are a bit shorter overall, so you’ll have slightly more time to explore cities or natural sights.
There are quite some transfers in both itineraries, so you’ll spend time on checking in and out from hotels and arranging for your luggage several times. It might be more relaxed to just choose one or two base towns and make your trips from there. But that’s a matter of personal preference, and if you like to spend a night in each town, that’s perfectly fine. In case you’d like to reduce the amount of base towns/hotels, here are some ideas:
For option 2: travel onto Lucerne after arrival in Zurich. Spend a few days in Lucerne and a few in Interlaken. Make a day trip to Bern from either Lucerne or Interlaken, or visit Bern on your way back to Zurich.
Handegg and the Gelmerbahn valley station are at a 1h16 train/bus trip from Interlaken Ost. It’s certainly doable as a day trip, but there are spectacular mountain trips closer to Interlaken. Please find options here: https://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauregion/activities.
If you learn how to use the timetable, you can check traveling times for each transfer and find out what you’re comfortable with. This page explains how to use it: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.
