Lauterbrunnen – Mürren circuit with Saver Day Pass

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen, intending to complete a scenic circuit route with a Saver Day Pass. They want to confirm if the entire route would be free with their pass or if it only covers certain segments. The circuit includes various cable cars and bus rides between Lauterbrunnen, Grutschalp, Murren, Gimmelwald, and Stechelberg.

Key takeaways:
  • The whole circuit route of Lauterbrunnen – Grutschalp – Murren – Gimmelwald – Stechelberg – Lauterbrunnen is covered by the Saver Day Pass.
  • You can find detailed information about the Saver Day Pass's coverage on the validity map available online.
  • While the Saver Day Pass covers many mountain routes, tickets are required for travel to higher attractions like the Schilthorn.

    Hello everyone,

I am doing a trip to Interlaken and will visit Lauterbrunnen as well and I am holding a Saver Day Pass.

I have been reading this forum and am interested in doing the circuit route: Lauterbrunnen – cable car to Grütschalp – train to Mürren, then walk to take cable car from Murren to Gimmelwald – then cable car to Stechelberg – then bus to Lauterbrunnen – then train back to Interlaken.

From the information that I found in this forum and about Saver Day Pass on SBB website, it is said that Lauterbrunnen-Grutschalp-Murren and/or Lauterbrunnen-Stechelberg-Gimmelwald would be free.

However I could not find if doing the circuit route would be free with Saver Day Pass. Therefore I would like to know if the whole circuit route is covered by Saver Day Pass or it would only be free if I only choose one route and must come back the same way (for example Lauterbrunnen-Grutschalp-Murren-Grutschalp-Lauterbrunnen or take the route Lauterbrunnen-Stechelberg-Gimmelwald-Stechelberg-Lauterbrunnen)?

    Thank you!

The basic ‘legal’ background to the Swiss Travel Pass and ‘General Season Ticket’ (on which the Saver Day Pass is based) is that it gives free travel to all mountain places in Switzerland which are legally ‘communes’ ie ‘real’ towns or villages, rather than just ‘mountain outposts’

This is the reason why the STP and Saver Day Pass gives ‘free’ travel as far as Grindelwald, Wengen and Murren but not higher up (eg Kleine Scheidegg). So, as has been the case for many years, if you hold a valid STP / SDP both approach routes to Murren are free but you have to buy a ticket for higher up eg Schilthorn. The same principal applies for Jungfrau – free as far as Grindelwald and Wengen, but not higher up ie Wengen – Kleine Scheidegg, Grindelwald – Kleine Scheidegg, Girndelwald – Eigergletscher, KS – Jungfraujoch
