Weather forecast Lucerne 15 days ahead for July

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Interlaken and Luzern from July 18-21, and is worried about rain in the forecast for their planned visits to Schilthorn, Titlis, and Mt. Rigi. They seek advice on whether the rain will last all day or be brief, and whether they should prepare for indoor activities.

Key takeaways:
  • Check weather forecasts only 3 days ahead as they can change frequently.
  • Rain in Switzerland, especially in summer, often comes in short bursts, especially in the late afternoon.
  • Always carry a raincoat for sudden weather changes, as rain can be quite brief.

    Hi,

We’ll be in Interlaken and Luzern area from July 18-July 21st. I was checking the weather and pretty much everyday it is either shower or thunderstorm. Our plan is to visit Schilthron on 19th, Titlis on 20th, and Mt. Rigi on 21th. Does rain in Switzerland is like whole day or just for short time and then it is ok? What should we be prepared for? Would we be able to visit these places or have to stay in hotel? Any insight or suggestion is highly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi Sukunag,

No worries yet! There are no reliable weather forecasts for Switzerland for 15 days in advance. You can start looking at forecasts 3 days in advance, and even then it may still change several times. It can rain for a few minutes or all day long. The latter is unlikely. In summer it often starts raining from the late afternoon.

We just finished our trip in Switzerland a week ago.

2 weeks before we arrived rain and thunderstorms were predicted everyday in every town we were going to. In the end we had 1/2 hour rain with clouds in Montreux and 1/2 hour rain with clouds in Zermatt in the entire 15 days we were in Switzerland.

Honestly, forget the forecasts and check the weather on the day (which can still be wrong) and take a raincoat with you because things change quickly.
