Hi every one…I have 2 swiss travel passes for 8 continous days and a family card. I will be travelling with my husband and 2 kids aged 7 and 10 in first week of may. We plan to go to interlaken from lucerne by train. I read on one if the websites that journey by lucerne interlaken express is covered by swiss travel pass (flex) and not continous pass. Is it correct? Also Is there a need to do reservations for this journey ? We will start from lucerne at approx 4 pm.

The coverage for the Swiss Travel Pass (Flex) is identical to the Swiss Travel Pass continuous on nominated travel days of course.

There is no need for reservations on the Luzern – Interlaken Express. It is just a regular once an hour commuter train.

Thank you so much for prompt reply.

I need one more help. We will go to salzburg from zurich on 7th may and are planning to leave by 8.30am. I believe STP will cover the cost till Bachs and we need to buy tickets beyond till salzburg. Is reservation mandatory on the trains between zurich to salzburg?

Also which card or pass should we buy for Austria local travel?

This might help – http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/austria. The STP does on fact cover you till Buchs.

Sorry I don’t know too much about travel passes within Austria. Depending on what your overall travel plans look like it is possible you might need to consider http://www.myswissalps.com/eu railglobalpass.

    Hi Rohini

As Rockoyster says the journey from Lucerne to Interlaken is covered by the Swiss Travel Pass – you can view the area of validity on this link http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity

Our site covers travel to, from and within Switzerland only. However it seems that this link might be able to help you with Austria passes: http://www.oebb.at/en/tickets -kundenkarten/oesterrei ch-europa/travel-paesse/eurail.html

All the best for your trip!

    Maria.

    Hi Maria,

I m new to the group and find forum very useful.

We are planning to visit in june with 3 kids. 2 days will be staying in grindelwald, 2 days in Murran and 1 day in lucrene. Planning to use 4 day pass. So we may travel to Rigi and schilthorn apart from regular trips in between instead of purchasing ticket each time.

I am intereted to know if kids will be free to Rigi and schilthorn trip? Secondly this 4 day pass will cover all traveling through grindelwald and murren or do we need to spent on other tickets apart from passes. So, what do u think if 4 day pass or half fare ticket will be better.

    Regards
    Jahanzeb

Hello Jahanzeb and Welcome to MySwissAlps

You will get a better response to your specific questions by starting a new thread rather than jumping on an existing one. Briefly . . . .

Your kids, if they are under 16, will travel free anywhere with a Swiss Family Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard) which is available for free when acquired in conjunction with a Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass) or Swiss Half Fare Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard).

You should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math.

I’m not sure it is worth swapping hotels between Mürren and Grindelwald.

Thanks Rockoyster. For your prompt response and sharing usful link.

Regarding stay for 4 days between grindelwald and murren. Which other best option can be taken for stay in nearby.

You could also book your tickets directly with ÖBB Booking, the Austrian Railway site.
