Okay, I am a novice with European train travel.  We have successfully booked the Eurostar from London to Amsterdam so one down 10 to go.  We travel from Luzern to Interlaken on Oct. 1st.  I keep reading about the scenic Interlaken express train and that it travels this route.  Can I book it for just the Luzern to Interlaken route?  Also, I am having difficulty finding how/where to book it.  On SBB.CH I am not sure what all the initials stand for – maybe one is the scenic train.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi NWerbie,

Seat reservation on the Lucerne-Interlaken Express is not obligatory. The train runs at hourly interval in both directions so a reservation is really not necessary unless you are travelling in a big group or have a fixed schedule.

Will you have a rail pass during your travel? If you have a Swiss Travel Pass or a Eurail Global Pass, you can travel on the Lucerne-Interlaken Express for free.

    Swiss Travel Pass: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/

    Eurail Pass: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/eurail-global-pass/

    Hi NWErbie!

The Luzern-Interlaken Express is part of the GoldenPass line. You can find all relevant info on our GoldenPass page: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/goldenpass/.

For example, the paragraphs under https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/goldenpass/#dates explain how to find the trains in the timetable and which abbreviations are used. Tips and info about tickets and reservations can be found under https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/goldenpass/#price.

    I hope that’s helpful :-).
