Lausanne-based itinerary with Eurail Global Pass
A traveler is flying into Geneva and plans to use Lausanne as a base for exploring scenic towns like Geneva, Montreux, and Thun. They want advice on the reasonableness of their itinerary and any additional charming towns to visit in western Switzerland, as well as potential train trips on the Glacier Express route.
- Your itinerary from Lausanne to Zermatt is a great option for a day trip with beautiful scenery.
- Check out additional scenic towns like Vevey or Gruyères to enhance your experience.
- Use your Eurail Global Pass for travel; just ensure to confirm its validity with the provided resources.
- The regular trains can also offer similar views as the Glacier Express route, so you have flexible traveling options.

I am flying to Geneva.
I have Eurail Global pass.
My plan is to go from airport by train to Lausanne and use Lausanne as a base.
I will make a day trip to Geneva. Another day trip to Montreaux. Another day trip to Thun. Then I plan on traveling to Lucerne from Lausanne which I understand is the Golden Pass route.1. Is this reasonable and advisable?
2. Are there any other charming/scenic towns I should visit while in the western part of Switzerland ?
3. Should I take any train trips from Lausanne to explore some of the Glacier Express route?(If so what places do you recommend? Is the trip from Lausanne to Zermatt worth another day trip? I am very flexible on my plans and time frames.
Thank you in advance
