Peak2Peak Pass Zermatt: both trips in 1 day?

Short summary – read this first

Evan is planning to visit Zermatt and wants to know if he can take the Glacier Paradise and Gornergrat trips on different days. He's also looking for advice on the most cost-effective pass options for his excursions since he already has the Swiss Half Fare Card.

Key takeaways:
  • The Peak2Peak pass allows for combined excursions to both Glacier Paradise and Gornergrat, but they must be taken on the same day.
  • The Peak Pass is better for multi-day stays as it covers more destinations, including Sunnegga.
  • With the Swiss Half Fare Card, you can get discounts on various mountain excursions including the PeakPass.
  • The Swiss Travel Pass also offers discounts on the Peak2Peak ticket and PeakPass.

It appears the 2 peak pass at Zermatt giving you trips to Glacier Paradise and Gornergrat have to be taken on the same day – is this correct or can each trip be on separate or consecutive days?

What do people think is the most cost effective pass to buy for this region? We do have the half fare pass.

    Thanks – Evan.

    Hi Evan,

The Peak2Peak and Peak Pass are 2 different passes.

If you’re planning to combine excursions to Gornergrat and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise in 1 day, the Peak2Peak is a better option. This pass is designed especially for that.

The Peak Pass is ideal if you are staying in Zermatt for several days and covers trips to Sunnegga as well so you can plan your excursions over multiple days.

If you have a Swiss Half Fare Card, you can purchase discounted tickets for all your mountain excursions. To determine whether additional passes will give you more discounts, you have to calculate the cost as explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Thanks Anna,

Yes we are trying to work out the best option and wanted to just do those two main destinations but over 2 days and the peak to peak was the best option – but has to be the same day which is a shame!

    Thanks for clarifying.

    Evan.

    Hi Evan,

You’ll find a short explanation about the options here: http://www.myswissalps.com/gornergrat/tickets.

The PeakPass can be a good option if you plan to include a 3rd mountain excursion, e.g. to Sunnegga (https://www.myswissalps.com/sunneggarothorn). Note that the PeakPass is 25% discounted with your Swiss Half Fare Card.

    Hi Angel,

You will get a discount on both the Peak2Peak ticket as well as the PeakPass with a valid Swiss Travel Pass. Please see http://www.myswissalps.com/gornergrat/tickets.

But I’m not sure if I ‘ve understood your question correctly. Feel free to clarify in case I haven’t!
