    Hello everyone,
We are planning a trip towards the end of September beginning of October. Any recommendations on places to stay in either Wengen or Grindewald? We are also considering Vevey or somewhere near by and hoping for recommendations in that area as well.

    Thank you

    Hi dtrain,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

In Wengen, I like Hotel Schoenegg. You can find more suggestions on our Wengen page: https://www.myswissalps.com/accommodation/hotels/wengen/

For hotel recommendation in Grindelwald: https://www.myswissalps.com/accommodation/hotels/grindelwald/

Montreux would be a good base to stay close to Vevey: https://www.myswissalps.com/accommodation/hotels/montreux/

    Hope this helps.

    Hello dtrain.

Note that hotels in neighbouring Vevey are included in the Montreux section of the MySwissAlps website.

I would stick with Vevey.  The website also states.
‘Vevey is just north-west of Montreux, and directly on the lake as well. It’s not exactly smaller than Montreux, but it’s less famous and accommodation prices are a bit lower.’ (my emphasis.)

‘Vevey is a convenient location train-wise. It’s on the rail line to Lausanne/Geneva in the west, and to Montreux/Villeneuve in the south-east. In addition, the scenic regional trains across the hills of the Lavaux vineyards depart and arrive here.’

For public transport Vevey is just as good a base as Montreux.   The ‘Ligne de Vignes’ runs hourly up through the Lavaux vineyards (Unesco world heritage site) and now goes through to Palezieux, where it connects with fast trains which run Lausanne-Fribourg-Bern-Lucerne.

Note also the trolleybus which runs every 10-minutes Vevey-Montreux-Chillon Castle-Villeneuve.  The bus route which runs every 30 minutes from Vevey to Chatel St Denis is also very useful.

    Kind regards
    Roger

    Thank you Anna,
I’ll check out those links. Upon my initial research Wengen seemed like a good place to be. This is our first trip there so we’re excited

    Thank you again,
    Darren

    Thank you Roger,

I will check the website. I can’t wait to dive in. Vevey seems like a nice place in that region and based on what you are saying centrally located around the lake perhaps.

    Thank you again,
    Darren

    Hi dtrain,

I visited Switzerland in Aug/Sept of 2024 and for part of my trip stayed 5 days in Wengen and 4 days in Vevey, loving both locations. I think both locations make a good base for their area.

Wengen is on the mountain side with a beautiful view of the Lauterbruenen valley. I stayed at the Chalet Gerbera.  Very nice chalet, the hosts are very welcoming, there are laundry facilities available for a small charge per load, and the view of the valley and mountains is tremendous.  The only downside is it is downhill from the train station so the walk up may take a little extra time depending on your abilities.  I think there is a taxi service available if needed for checkout day. https://www.chalet-protea-gerbera.com/?lang=en

In Vevey I stayed at the Astra Hotel.  It is one block from the train station and is in the center of the city and the old town area.  The hotel was nice and at the time prices were reasonable. Vevey is just as nice as Montreux as a base, there are many good restaurants, it is on the main train line as mentioned in an earlier post, and there is a nice market that ran twice a week, when I was there, that has fresh food, hot food stalls, and vendors selling a little of everything. https://astra-hotel.ch/en/
