Planning a 3-day itinerary for Interlaken

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Jenner is planning a trip to Interlaken and needs help organizing their itinerary for visiting places like Harder Kulm, Grindelwald, and the lakes. They will arrive on the afternoon of the 17th and want suggestions for activities that evening and how to group their visits over the next few days using public transport.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider getting a Swiss Travel Pass for unlimited travel on trains, buses, and boats in Switzerland.
  • On your first day, visit Lake Thun, Interlaken, and Unterseen, then explore Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen the next day.
  • For Lake Brienz, taking the train to Interlaken OST before the boat cruise is the best option.

    Hi there,

I would like to check on all these places which I love to visit during my stay at Interken West.

Harder Kulm, Schynige Plattle, Unterseen, Lake Thun, Lake Brienz, First and Grindelwald.

I need your advice on all these places, perhaps you can help me to group them if I can cover within the same day.

    Here is my DRAFT itinerary:

    ~ 18th: Interlaken

    ~ 19th: Interlaken

    ~ 20th: Bern Old town

My main transport is either train or bus.

I arrive on 17th afternoon around 2pm, have any recommendations places to go within these few hours from 3pm until 9pm local time?

I will stay in Interlaken then go to Lucense follow by Milan to Florenece n last stop is Rome. Any recommendations on railway passes ?

Bunch of thank in advance and looking forward to your reply.

    Hi Jenner,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

If you’re looking for a railpass that is valid in both Switzerland and Italy, you might want to consider getting a Eurail Global Pass. You check the validity area here: http://www.myswissalps.com/eurailglobalpass/validity

Regarding your Interlaken itinerary, my suggestion would be to organise your excursions as follows:

    Day 1 (17th): Lake Thun + Interlaken + Unterseen

    Day 2 (18th): Grindelwald, Grindelwald First + Lauterbrunnen/Mürren

Day 3 (19th): Schynige Platte in the morning. Lake Brienz + Harder Kulm in the afternoon

Hope this gives you some ideas to plan your itinerary.

    regards,
    Anna

    Hi Jenner!

Both are lovely. Lake Thun is larger and the western part has more open, wide and hilly views. Lake Brienz is a bit smaller and more enclosed by the mountains, and you’ll pass the beautiful Giessbach Falls. You can compare both lakes via:

    Hi Anne,

    Need your advice again.

After cover Schynige Platte, which way works better to go Lake Brieze:

    a. Take train from Wilderswil to Oberried am Brienzersee then take cruise from here go Lakw Brieze

    Or

    b. Take train from Wilderswil to Interlaken OST then take cruise to Lake Brieze from Interlaken OST

    Tks.

    Hi Jenner,

Option B makes sense. To reach Oberried, you would pass through Interlaken Ost anyway. Please find train schedules in the timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.
