Best town in Lauterbrunnen area with nightlife?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Tbone1311 is planning a trip to Lauterbrunnen and wants to know about nightlife options outside of their hotel, as well as possibilities for visiting other villages at night. They also seek advice on which village may be better to stay in for both nightlife and day excursions.

Key takeaways:
  • Lauterbrunnen has limited nightlife, so consider staying in larger towns like Grindelwald or Interlaken for more options.
  • Day excursions from Lauterbrunnen are feasible; check the timetable for travel times and departure frequency.
  • Traveling to other villages after dark is safe, but ensure to check the train and bus schedules since they may run less frequently in the evening.
  • If visiting in mid to late October, be aware that many activities may be closed as villages prepare for the winter season.

I realize that the point of staying in this area is to enjoy the mountains, etc. but we still like a bit of nightlife, at least someplace to enjoy a glass of wine not at the hotel.

We have a reservation at the Hotel Siberhorn. I was wondering if there is anything to do in the are after dark? Is it possible to go to other village at night?

Any other suggestions as to what village may be best to stay?

Lastly, is it easy to visit other villages / excursions from Lauterburnnen in the day?

    Hi Tbone1311,

Lauterbrunnen is stunning, but doesn’t offer much of a nightlife other than some restaurants as far as I know. If this is important to you, you’d best look into somewhat larger towns such as Grindelwald (http://www.myswissalps.com/gr indelwald) or even Interlaken (http://www.myswissalps.com/in terlaken). Other options are listed at http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauregion.

Day excursions from Lauterbrunnen are definitely doable. I suggest you study the timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable and enter destinations to get a feel for traveling times. Yes, you can also get to other towns after dark, but trains and buses don’t necessarily run until midnight and frequency can drop after about 8 or 9pm, so carefully check the timetable.

Yes, that’s safe. Do mind the timetable as Annika said. And do fill out “Interlaken” (no c), to be sure it doesn’t send you elsewhere 🙂

When will you be in Switzerland? That can impact your plans. For example, if it’s in mid to later October, then you can pretty much forget about any nightlife in the villages, as these places shut down (between summer and snowy season). For me, a good nightlife is in a place like Luzern, but that’s not where you plan to be.
