Swiss Alps in 1.5 days. Matterhorn vs Jungfrau
Gary, a traveler from the US, is planning a quick 1.5-day visit to Switzerland with his family. They're flying into Zurich and want a flexible itinerary focusing on scenic experiences without long waits or cable cars. He’s seeking advice on whether to drive or take the train, and which mountain visit would be best given their time constraints.
- For a short trip, focus on Zermatt and take the train instead of driving for a more relaxing experience.
- Consider visiting Gornergrat for great views of the Matterhorn, as it's accessible by train.
- If you're short on time, visiting Mt. Pilatus near Lucerne may be a quicker alternative.
- Opt for the Swiss Travel Pass for unlimited travel and convenience on trains.

Hi-
We are a family of 4 with 2 kids(12 & 16). Need help with the Itenary for 1.5 days. Flying from London into Zurich at 10AM on Jul 1 and flying back from Zurich on Jul 2 at 9:30 PM.
Our family is very impatient with wait times at long lines and long walks, need flexibility to stopover as required without time limits, Cable Cars or Gondolas is a NO NO, trains to mountains is OK. we enjoy scenic rides, car drives, would like to visit one of the mountains and enjoy the scenery.
1) We are US residents so as I understand car driving is similar except with some strict traffic rules and parking costs. But maybe it gives more flexibility than a train? Is it comfortable to drive all the way to Zermatt and back in such a shot period?
2) If u suggest train over car? Which one do u suggest, Swiss Pass/Half fare/Point to Point?
3) Where to station on Jul1 night?
4) Which is the best bang for the buck and time between Matterhorn vs Jungfrau. I understand both are great visits but given the time constraint which is better?
May be we’ll get to visit one place but it should capture the essence of Swiss Alps.
Appreciate if you can give an Itenary each for both Car and Train options.
Thank you Very Much
Gary
