Swiss Travel Pass: Glacier Express / GoldenPass

Short summary – read this first

Aika is planning a 15-day trip to Switzerland in May and is considering purchasing the Swiss Travel Pass (Consecutive version). She wants to know if this pass will be valid for reduced fares on the Glacier Express and Luzern-Interlaken Express. Aika is concerned about its impact on her itinerary, especially for these specific train rides.

Key takeaways:
  • The consecutive Swiss Travel Pass includes free travel on the Glacier Express and the Luzern-Interlaken Express, but additional seat reservations are required for the Glacier Express.
  • You can use the Swiss Travel Pass on the day of travel as long as it's valid, allowing you to ride on all lines marked as 'free'.

    Hi,

My name is Aika. I will be visiting Switzerland this coming May for 15 days only. Hence, I wanted to purchase Swiss Travel Pass (Consecutive) for 15 days only. I was wondering if the Swiss Travel Pass (Consecutive/ Continuous Pass version) will be included in the reduction for the Glacier Express ride. I noticed that the option provided on the Glacier Express website are Swiss Travel Pass for Flex, Youth, and Youth Flex (as shown on the image). Also, I noticed that the option provided for Luzern- Interlaken Express is Swiss Travel Pass for Flex instead of Consecutive (as show on the second image). May I know if my purchase of Swiss Travel Pass (Consecutive version) will be affected for my future train rides, especially the Glacier Express Ride (Zermatt to St. Moritz)?

Kindly assist. I am quite concern about this.

Hello Aika, thank you for joining MySwissAlps!

I think you’ll love the flexibility offered by the Swiss Travel Pass. It’s such an easy way to explore the country. And no worries, the consecutive 15-day Swiss Travel Pass is valid for the Glacier Express and the Luzern-Interlaken Express. Both rides are for free. You can learn about the Swiss Travel Pass validity at https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity. Either download the map and/or browse the list of covered routes and activities below.

The Flex and Youth versions mentioned in the screenshots you added just emphasize that not only the “regular” consecutive Swiss Travel Pass, but also other versions like the Swiss Travel Pass Flex (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex) and Swiss Travel Pass Youth (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/price) are valid.

All you’d need for the Glacier Express are additional seat reservations. That’s explained at https://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/tickets.

Once you purchase a Swiss Travel Pass, as long it is valid on the day you travel, you can ride at will on all lines that are marked ‘free’ All versions of Swiss Travel Pass are valid for travel on all railways of the core Swiss railway network. There is nothing to worry about
