Hi just wondering what the best way to travel to Murren in the last week of November when none of the cable cars or trains are in operation. Can we travel to from Lucerne to Interlaken then Lauterbrunnen and then get a bus for the remainder of the trip?

    Cheers Louise

    Hi Louise,

All modes of transport to Mürren will be operating in the last week of November, i.e.

    • Cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp + train from Grütschalp to Mürren
    • Bus from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg + cable car from Stechelberg via Gimmelwald to Mürren

It is only the cableway above Birg that will be closed. There is no access to the Schilthorn summit via Birg between 14 Oct 2024 and 15 Mar 2025.

Hope this clarifies your transport options!

    Hi

thanks for the information I get what you are saying but I’m trying to price things out and can’t for life of me work out the stops to look up on the SBB or the Eurail to see what pass etc covers these moods of transport. Can you tell me the cable car that you are talking about where do I find the prices for these? I’m trying to decide which pass is the best and still undecided but willing to keep researching in order to get the best deal for our money spent.

    Hi Lou,

How to get to Mürren is explained in detail here:

    https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-guide/lauterbrunnen-murren/

You can get ticket prices from the SBB timetable, but what you will see by default is the half-fare price, so double it to get the price that would apply without a half fare card.

Information to help you use the SBB timetable is here:

    https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/

The ticket prices from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren are:

    1. Cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp + train from Grütschalp to Mürren: CHF 11.80. (Put from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren via Grütschalp into the SBB timetable).

    2. Bus from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg + cable car from Stechelberg to Mürren: CHF 16.40. (Put from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren via Stechelberg into the SBB timetable).

I have attached a photo with a diagram of the two routes.

The Swiss Travel Pass covers both routes in full.

The Eurail Pass covers the route Lauterbrunnen-Grütschalp-Mürren in full.

For the route via Stechelberg, the Eurail Pass doesn’t cover the bus from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg, but provides 25% discount on the cable car Stechelberg-Mürren.

Further information about passes is here, including maps showing where each pass is valid:

    https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/eurail-global-pass/

    Hope this clarifies things!

    Hi Lou,

Within the links that Alpenrose has provided for the Swiss Travel Pass and Eurail Global Pass. For example with the Swiss Travel Pass, you’ll find useful sections  which summarise the more popular coverage routes / excursions.  I’d take a look at these as an initial go-to if you wanted a quick snapshot of what is included/discounted with either pass:

I hope this also helps in addition to Alpenrose’s reply.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
