A traveler is planning a trip to Mt Titlis and Mt Pilatus during the first week of April, mainly staying in Interlaken. Hello,

We are planning to visit Mt Titlis and Mt Pilatus on two separate days during the first week of April. We will be staying in Interlaken majority of our stay. I am trying to decide if it’s better to stay in Interlaken and visit Mt Titlis and Mt Pilatus by car to save time using public transportation. Or the better option is to stay in Lucerne couple of days and use public transportation to visit Mt Titlis and Mt Pilatus?

Is the parking available near those two Mts. if driving from Interlaken is an option?

    Thank you!

    Hi hgarg,

If you’re driving, both Mt Titlis and Mt Pilatus have parking facilities next to the valley stations. Both destinations are also easily accessible by public transport. Lucerne as a base is much more convenient for day trips to Titlis and Pilatus. You can find details on how to reach both destinations in the following links:

For Pilatus and Titlis, Anna describes Luzern as a much more convenient base than Interlaken, however Switzerland is a small country, and in fact driving from Interlaken to both PIlatus and Titlis is easy and takes only 70 – 90 minutes as both Titlis and Pilatus are accessed from Interlaken without going into central Luzern.

In both cases you drive from Interlaken on the A8 road. Apart from the scenic section over the Brunig pass the A8 road is mostly upgraded, the routes are:

For PIlatus (journey 1 hour 10 minutes): Interlaken – A8 – join A2 – A2 exit 27 (Luzern Kriens) – Kriens Pilatus Bahnen base station

    For Titlis (Journey about 1 hour 25 min): Interlaken – A8 – A8 exit 30 – A2 – A2 exit 33 – Kantonstrasse – Engelberg Titlis base station
